Dunstan Constituency By-election 2017
Notice of Election, Nomination of Candidates and Closing Date for Nomination
Notice is given under Sections 52 and 53 of the Local Electoral Act 2001 that on Tuesday, 20 June 2017 an election will be held to elect one member of the Dunstan Constituency. The vacancy has arisen following the recent death of Councillor Maggie Lawton.
Nominations for the above position open on Monday, 27 March 2017 and close at noon on Monday, 24 April 2017.
Each candidate must be nominated on the nomination paper obtainable as of 27 March 2017 from the following councils or on their websites:
Central Otago District Council (www.codc.govt.nz )
Queenstown Lakes District Council (www.qldc.govt.nz )
Otago Regional Council (www.orc.govt.nz )
Dunedin City Council (www.dunedin.govt.nz ).
Each nomination must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 (GST inclusive) payable by cash, eftpos, cheque or online banking.
A candidate may submit a candidate profile statement and recent photograph with their nomination paper for sending out with the voting documents to electors if an election is required. The requirements for profile statements and photos are set out in a candidate information handbook below.

Electors may enrol or amend their enrolment details on the Residential Electoral Roll by:
i) Completing an enrolment form available from any NZ Post agency
ii) Visiting the Elections website (www.elections.org.nz )
iii) Calling 0800 ENROLNOW (0800 36 76 56)
iv) Freetexting your name and address to 3676
Updates to the Preliminary Electoral Roll close at 5.00 pm on Monday, 24 April 2017.
Applications for registration as a ratepayer elector are to be made on the ratepayer elector enrolment forms available from the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes District Councils and must be returned to the appropriate District Council Electoral Officer before 5.00 pm on Monday, 24 April 2017.
If an election is required to fill this vacancy it will be held under the First Past the Post electoral system by postal vote. The names on the voting papers will be in random order. Voting papers will be processed throughout the three week voting period.
