FLOOD WARNING Pomahaka River and surrounding tributaries

Significant rainfall has been experienced throughout the upper Pomahaka Catchment, spilling over into catchments west of Lawrence through to Alexandra. Many tributaries of the Pomahaka River and also the Clutha River are in flood. This has caused extensive surface flooding on state highways and has also made many minor roads impassable.

At its peak, Rainfall measuring 34mm was recorded in half an hour at Moa Flat at 5:30pm Friday.

Flows of the Pomahaka River may reach 350 cumecs (4.30 metres) at Burkes Ford, by about 6:00 am Saturday morning (January 8th). Farmers are advised to move stock from close to the river upstream of Burkes Ford.
