Poison Warning - Sister Peaks

Regional Services will be hand laying the deadly poison Cyanide, for the control of possums, throughout the Sister Peaks 19667ha, Animal Health Board TB Vector Control Area from 30 November 2008 to 30 April 2009.

The operational boundaries are from SH85 Pig Root Creek Bridge following the Shag River south to Deep Dell Creek and Macraes Flat, the boundary then follows Macraes Hyde Road to Mare Burn Road. Methods include Feratox pellets in blue paper bait bags and bait stations.

All baits are dyed green or blue and should be treated as poisonous.
Warning signs will be erected at access points to the treated area.
The public should note the following points:

  • DO NOT enter onto properties in these areas without permission.
  • DO NOT handle or remove carcasses, or baits.
  • DO NOT allow dogs or pets to roam on these properties.
  • DO NOT allow children to wander unsupervised on these properties.

All landowners will be contacted prior to entry.
Signs will remain in place until the area is safe.
