Water Forum II, which helps determine the regional water plan, was held at the Cromwell Presbyterian Church on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 August.

Moonlight Track Rockfall Update
Queenstown volunteer firefighters have pumped water to help remove 30,000 tonnes of rock above the Shotover River. The rockfall was on the right bank of the river, midway between the Edith Cavell Bridge and the Moonlight River about 3.5km upstream.

Proposed changes to the Regional Passenger Transport Plan (RPTP)
The Otago Regional Council (ORC) is proposing to change the Regional Passenger Transport Plan (RPTP) and Passenger Services Procedures. This will allow:
- further integration of contracted and commercial services
- a consistently high standard of buses
- increased accessibility
- focus on customer service.
Submissions have closed and the ORC will make a decision shortly.

ORC takes on building control for dams
The Otago Regional Council (ORC) is now responsible for building control for dams and their associated structures in Otago. Anyone wanting to apply for a building consent, Code Compliance Certificate and Certificates of Acceptance should now apply to ORC. Previously these matters were handled by district and city councils. If you are planning to build or undertake work on a dam or associated structure then click here

Building control for dams in West Coast and Southland transferred to Otago Regional Council
From 1 July 2008 Otago Regional Council (ORC) is responsible for building control for dams and their associated structures in the West Coast and Southland regions, along with certain dam safety management functions.

ORC Committee recommends revenue policy for part funding the proposed Awatea St Stadium
The Otago Regional Council (ORC) Finance and Corporate Committee voted to recommend a revenue policy should Council proceed with part funding of the proposed Awatea Street Stadium.

The Otago Regional Council (ORC) Finance and Corporate Committee voted by a majority decision to recommend that Council undertake the proposed new activity of part funding of the proposed Awatea Street Stadium subject to conditions

Flood Protection Management Bylaw 2008 adopted.
On 25 June 2008, following a report from the hearing committee, the Otago Regional Council adopted the Flood Protection Management Bylaw 2008 and determined that it became operative on 1 July 2008. This Bylaw replaces the former Otago Regional Council Bylaw 1999.
The purpose of the Bylaw is to manage, regulate and protect flood protection works belonging to, or under the control of the Otago Regional Council. Flood protection works can include drains, defences against water and floodways.

Pest Management Strategy for Otago (2006) Decision and Reference to the Environment Court
At a council meeting on 12 December 2007, ORC released it's decisions on submissions to the Proposed Pest Management Strategy for Otago (2006). For a full copy of the ORC decision, click here.
Two references have been lodged with Environment Court, regarding provisions relating to lagarosiphon and maximum allowable levels for rabbits in the Maniototo. Until these references are resolved, the Pest Management Strategy for Otago (2001) remains fully operative. |
