ORC fostering improved transport system

In an article published recently in the Otago Daily Times, Otago Regional Councillor Michael Deaker describes how ORC is encouraging a mixed-mode transport system for Dunedin - where people combine travel modes (whether taking a bus, walking, driving, sharing a ride, or cycling) - in ways that suit their needs. He describes how ORC and others have improved Dunedin bus services

Re-timing of City to Port Chalmers Bus Service

In response to passenger requests the current 5.30pm Monday-Friday City to Port Chalmers bus service will be re-timed to its former 5.15pm departure time from the Countdown terminus with effect from Monday 10 August 2009.

Changes to Central City Bus Stops

For safety reasons for both passengers and vehicle traffic, the bus stop formerly outside "The Bog Cafe & Bar" with a pedestrian crossing and traffic lanes through the George St/London St/Pitt Street/Frederick St intersection has been relocated to the next block outside the Alexis Motor Lodge. The stop just along George Street by steps opposite Albany Street has also been decommissioned as part of the DCC bus stop improvement project.

The bus stop in Albany St on corner of George Street outside the Rob Roy Dairy has been removed for similar reasons and relocated in George St to serve all southbound routes. It is now sited outside Plunket House (opposite the northbound stop outside Alexis Motor Lodge.)

With removal of the bus stop outside "The Bog" passengers should catch their bus at the most convenient of either the previous sop outside Dowsons Shoe store (just past corner of Hanover St) or the new stop in next block.
