Ways to pay your rates

 

Set up a direct debit with ORC so you don’t need to worry about remembering to pay. With direct debit, you can either:

  • Pay the full amount owing by direct debit on the due date 31 October.
  • Pay in three equal instalments; on 31 October and then the last business days of February and June.

If the payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday, funds will be debited on the closest business day prior to 31 October.

To be eligible for the instalment option, you must have paid any balance owing from previous years before submitting a direct debit authority form.

Rate penalties will not apply to current year rates using this option. Please note: new or amended direct debit instructions need to be received no later than 30 September to allow for processing for the current year's rates.

If our online direct debit payment system is used, a manual form is not required.

Select 'Otago Regional Council – Rates' from your bank’s pre-loaded payees list and complete the fields as prompted. You can also manually set Otago Regional Council up as a payee.

Include your assessment number (top right corner of your invoice and if you require a 6 digit number for internet banking please enter zeros in front of the assessment number) in the Particulars field, and ratepayer surname and initial in the Reference field.

Pay online through MYOB using your Mastercard or Visa credit card (a 2% merchant fee will apply).

EFTPOS payment is available at the following offices, cash payments are only accepted at Philip Laing House. Pay in person at one of the following locations:

  • Terrace Junction, 1092 Frankton Rd, Queenstown
  • Level 2, Philip Laing House, Rattray St, Dunedin

NZ Post Shop: Please note, if you are paying at the Post Shop, either the entire bill needs to be paid or a minimum of $20, and you must take your rates assessment with you.

Change of direct debit

For all changes to direct debits, or to set up a new direct debit payment, complete the direct debit form via our property search or download and complete the printable form. Any new direct debit payment instructions submitted will overwrite existing direct debit arrangements.

If you would like to cancel your direct debit you can either fill out an online 'Direct Debit Cancellation' form through our Property Search, or download and complete the printable form and return it to our rates team via post or email

  

Penalty waivers

To apply for a remission of your rates penalty please complete and submit the form below.

This application is made under ORC's Rates Remission Policy.

Circumstances under which a penalty may be remitted

  • All rates (excluding penalties that have been applied to be remitted) must be paid in full.
  • Remission will be considered in circumstances including death, serious illness & serious accident as at the due date and where there is an administrative error on the part of ORC.
  • Remission of penalties other than those mentioned above will be granted at the discretion of the General Manager Corporate Services & CFO.
  • Remission will not be considered on the late arrival of your payment due to incorrect addressing and postal service timing.

Ways to pay your consent fees

To pay your consent deposit via electronic banking select 'Otago Regional Council – Sundry Payments' from the pre-loaded payees on your bank's bill payment internet site and complete the fields as prompted.

To set up Otago Regional Council as a payee use our account number: 02-0900-0532547-00, Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin Branch.

Please quote the Applicant’s company or an individual’s surname and initial in the Particulars field, consent number (if known) in the Code Field, and “deposit” in the Reference field.


Pay online through MYOB using your Mastercard or Visa credit card (a 2% merchant fee will apply).

If you are paying for a consent deposit include the word “Deposit” in the field named: Assessment number / Debtor number and “Surname / Company Name” in the field named: Ratepayer name/Debtor name:

If you are paying the balance of your consent fees include your “debtor code” in the field named: Assessment number / Debtor number and “Invoice number and/or Surname / Company Name” in the field named: Ratepayer name/Debtor name.
