Glenorchy Lagoon monitoring update
It has now been eight months since the new water level monitoring station was installed at Glenorchy Lagoon in late October 2020.
Over this time, the lagoon’s usual levels have been in the range of 311.0-311.1m elevation, and there have been a small number of rapid rises in lagoon levels seen in response to higher river flows.
The highest lagoon water levels of about 311.6 m elevation have been reached following heavy rainfall events in early November 2020, and June 2021. The lowest section of the floodbank along the lagoon is about 312.5-312.6m.
We are now using the recording site in the lagoon to inform likely responses to heavy rainfall events in the area.
A river flow recorder for the Rees River is planned to be installed and operational in 2021, and this will be another valuable addition to understand the flood hazards in Glenorchy.
