Thanks to those of you who came to see us when we held a follow-up session in Glenorchy to talk to you about our investigations into flooding and liquefaction hazards. This was an opportunity to ask us any questions you have about those studies and their results, and we hope you found it useful. 

We're grateful for the feedback we got and the questions that were asked. 

The ORC Natural Hazards were joined by a member of the ORC communications team, a liquefaction hazard expert from Tonkin + Taylor Ltd, and staff from QLDC and Emergency Management Otago. 

Now that we have completed the technical flooding and liquefaction hazard studies, the next project step is to focus on adaptation approaches.

This next phase of work is Steps 5-6,“what can we do about it?” of the 10-step Adaptation Pathways decision cycle. This cycle is shown in Figure 1, which also shows a summary of the work programme activities we have completed to date.



Two consultant projects are assessing the feasibility of hazard mitigation approaches for flooding and liquefaction hazards.

We will present the findings of these assessments at the next community engagement session later this year, planned for November. The aim of this session will be to discuss in more detail specific adaptation pathways for these hazards at Glenorchy, and their pros and cons.

Your involvement will be valuable to help guide our work as we want to work with you to identify and assess potential adaptation pathways.

We will also give an update at this time on the next steps proposed in this adaptation work programme.
