COMMUNITY UPDATE 40 | SEPTEMBER 2024

In this edition we remind you that we will be at the Glenorchy Hall over 10 and 11 September to present the findings of two new studies and answer any questions you may have about them. The studies are:

• Glenorchy and Kinloch Natural Hazards Risk Analysis

• Assessment of Floodplain Interventions Options

The community event will include a presentation (available in person and online), an interactive drop-in session, and opportunities to speak privately with our team. We look forward to seeing you there!

Risk analysis and floodplain intervention studies  

What was the purpose of these studies?

The scope of the Glenorchy and Kinloch Natural Hazards Risk Analysis study was to investigate risks from selected natural hazards by assessing a range of hazard scenarios.  

The risk analysis was based on natural hazards investigations previously completed for ORC. These include the flooding and liquefaction hazard assessments.  

The scope of the Assessment of Floodplain Intervention Options study was to investigate possible interventions to manage risks from flooding and erosion in the lower Rees River area by the Glenorchy township, the Dart River floodplain, and in the upper Rees River area by the Rees River bridge. 

The findings from the risk analysis, floodplain intervention options, findings from previous studies, and community feedback will all be used to help develop the final Head of Lake Whakatipu Adaptation Strategy in 2025.

Presenting the findings to the community 

We will be coming to Glenorchy to present these findings to the community on 10 and 11 September – come along to our community presentation and drop-in session! 

Hear about these two studies, ask your questions, and have a go at building adaptation pathways.

Join us to learn more about the findings of the Glenorchy and Kinloch risk analysis and the intervention study for the Rees and Dart floodplains – ask our team any questions.

What might future adaptation look like and how can we work towards it? Play the adaptation township game and have a go at building a pathway to a more resilient Head of the Lake community. Take another opportunity to ask our team any questions.
