Operations and Rivers Work Programmes

The Engineering Team at Otago Regional Council undertake annual programmes of work, to manage water flow in waterways around Otago. This work enhances the resilience of river ecosystems but also mitigates flood risks to the community. Seasonal maintenance work plays a crucial role in maintaining environmental balances and flood resilience.

This work is divided into two areas, River Management and Operations.

River Management encompasses the natural waterways around Otago. Operations focuses on the flood protection and drainage scheme management in the lower reaches of the Taieri, Clutha and Tokomairiro rivers.

Below are maps showing the two different work areas and the planned works for the 2023 – 2024 season. These maps are updated quarterly.
