Love Your Leith Project

Love Your Leith

Love Your Leith is a project to enhance the lower reaches of the Water of Leith. We believe this iconic section of the river has the potential to become an exciting new public space for Dunedin.

Love Your Leith Display in Otago Polytechnic Hub

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the design concepts throughout our consultation in July and August. This has helped us shape the design journey for Dunedin’s very own river – your river.

In our July/August consultation, we had 111 responses from our Love Your Leith displays in the Otago Polytechnic Hub and Dunedin City Council Public Library. Our online survey showed an average of 82% who liked each of the three concept designs.

We will be updating the existing concepts to reflect your feedback. The Leith Project Working Group (which includes representatives from Dunedin City Council, University of Otago, Aukaha, and Otago Polytechnic) will meet in October to recommend final concepts to the Otago Regional Council in November for technical development and to add into future planning.

Love Your Leith river trail

Leith TrailCome explore Dunedin’s very own river, The Water of Leith!

The small but mighty river flows through the city, and over the years it has had a huge influence on the landscape. We have created a #loveyourleith River Trail, a self-guided trail for kids and families to get out into local nature and connect with the Leith.

The trail has been open since last year.  It begins at the lower entrance of Ross Creek Trail near Rockside Road bridge and will take you on a journey along the river and out to the harbour mouth next to Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Share your love for the Leith on social media with the #loveyourleith.

You can also tell us what you love about the Leith and any ideas for how it looks and feels by having your say on the Love Your Leith Project above.
