Phormidium (toxic algae) present at Hawea River at Camp Hill Road

Phormidium has been sighted Hawea River, upstream of Camphill Road bridge. Warning signage is in place at this site and it is likely this alert will be in place throughout the summer season.

Algae spotted in Tomahawk lagoon

Tomahawk lagoon has tested positive for potentially toxic blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). We recommend that people, and their pets, avoid the water in the lagoon and follow the instructions of any signs present. While the lagoon is not safe to swim in, the water at Tomahawk Beach has not been affected and is still safe to swim in.
