Von Valley Wetland Management Area

Description:

A large area of wetlands (including tarns, kettle holes, restiad bogs, cushion bogs, rush and sedge swamps, moist depressions and seepages) west of Lake Wakatipu in the Von Valley.

Type/Class:

Bog, swamp, and tarn. 1

Size:

2.5 ha.

Altitude:

500 - 540 m above sea level.

Approximate location:

33 km Northwest of Kingston.

Description

A1

 Habitat for nationally or internationally rare or threatened species or communities. Presence of threatened plant species Cardamine sp., Oreomyrrhis colensoi var. delicatula, Crassula multicaulis, Isolepis basilaris, Tufted hair-grass (Deschampsia caespitosa), Ranunculus ternatifolius and Brachyscome linearis. 1

 High diversity of wetland habitat types. High diversity of habitat types (see physical description above). 1

 Scarce in Otago in terms of its ecological or physical character. Some of the wetlands are scarce in Otago Region terms of physical/ecological character. 1
