Rainfall and rivers update

Media Release - 09 November 2018

Rainfall is now easing across Otago, but some rivers are still on the rise following rainfall yesterday and overnight. ORC’s flood managers are continuing to monitor levels closely.

The Manuherikia, Clutha and Taieri rivers are still rising presently. Lakes Wakatipu and Wanaka rose overnight and are still rising slowly.

“While the overall outlook is good, with no significant flooding expected based on current forecasts, caution should nonetheless be taken – especially around rivers and lakes that are still rising” said Ben Mackey, Regional Council Manager Natural Hazards. “Falling rivers can rise quickly again even with a little rain.”

Staff are continuing to monitor the situation and will provide further updates if necessary.
