Rainfall and rivers update #6

Media Release - 22 November 2018

With no weather watches or warnings now in place, rivers are dropping – but with rivers still in flood, flood risk remains.

Regional Council staff are emphasising that although rivers have now peaked, with water levels dropping, this week’s flood event is by no means over. Water from the Upper Taieri is still making its way downstream.

Risk remains high in flooded areas, with the size and duration putting flood protection infrastructure under pressure. Thus far, Regional Council infrastructure and floodbanks have performed well.

Regional Council staff remain active in the field across the region.

Council flood management staff are now analysing potential impacts of further rain forecast over the weekend and into early next week.
