Environmental Scientist

Why not make your next move not only good for your career, but good for your community too?

The Otago Regional Council is calling all Environmental Scientists! Are you an analytical thinker, approachable and experienced in fresh water analysis? If so, we would like to hear from you.

The Resource Science team is looking to appoint a suitably qualified Environmental Scientist to join them on a permanent, full time basis. The focus area of this role will be water quality, so prior experience in this field would be considered essential to the success of our new team member.

As an Environmental Scientist, you will be an active contributor to the Council’s water quality initiatives, providing datal analysis, interpretation and reporting, and contributing at a strategic level in the development of management and monitoring strategies, policy planning and interpretation and technical review. You will be a subject matter expert, providing advice to both internal and external stakeholders on best practice and sustainable outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a tertiary qualification in Science, have sound knowledge of natural and physical resource sciences and a proven track-record in defining information needs, conducting analyses, and developing user-oriented reports. Although prior work experience would be highly regarded, we would also welcome applications from those due to complete their PHD, or having recently finished it.

You will have a working understanding of the application of the Resource Management Act, and be confident presenting information to a wide variety of stakeholder groups. In exchange for your expertise, Council offers a competitive remuneration package, development opportunities for high performers and exposure to some of the key issues effecting water and resource use in New Zealand today.
