Manager Community Engagement

At the Otago Regional Council, we are in the middle of an exciting process transforming how we engage with our communities, rate-payers, and internal stakeholders. We are putting a heightened focus on customer service, open engagement, and meaningful two-way conversations to ensure our decisions are informed and our customers are kept up-to-date.

To achieve our big plans we need great leaders; those who set strategic plans in motion and then enable their teams to achieve – and you could be next to join our team. Borne out of the transformation process is the role of Manager Community Engagement. This new role has oversight for three portfolios; Communications and Engagement, Community Relations and Enviro-schools. Whilst distinct, each portfolio has a shared interest in genuine communication with our various stakeholders, ensuring our communications strategy is geared towards our entire target audience and in turn enabling them to have their say on ORC related matters.

The team is geographically dispersed and at this stage, account management focused. Each Communications and Engagement Advisor looks after a specific area of ORC business, and each Community Relations Advisor has a geographic portfolio within our region. Our Enviro-Schools portfolio educates the next generation on the focus of ORC business; our environment.

So, enough about us, what do we need from you? We need you to be a leader first. You will empower your team to deliver on the Communications and Engagement strategy set in place by yourself, in partnership with your peers and our senior leaders. You will be experienced in managing large community engagement programs and creating meaningful relationships with diverse communities. Ideally you will have worked in a political environment managing multiple projects and multidisciplinary teams. A working knowledge of community engagement principles and the IAP2 Spectrum would be highly regarded as well as an understanding of the education sector and community relations.

What can we offer in return for your great-ness? Whilst we work hard, we know how to have fun too. You will be empowered to seek creative solutions and think outside of the box, and you will form part of a wider leadership team committed to taking ORC places. You will be supported in your efforts by your Director, peers and team, where no task is too challenging and no door left unopened. You will be remunerated competitively in line with your experience.

If you are excited by a challenge and want to be a part of our change, we would like to hear from you.
