Working together, for our future

Are you passionate about the environment and working for your community?

Working for us is rewarding. Environmental management, public transport and protecting people and property from natural hazards - all in a day's work at the Otago Regional Council.

We’re committed to ensuring positive connections between environment and people, now and into the future.

Our team is growing, and we are now looking for a range of positions, from analysts and administrators to scientists and engineers. Work with us to help us achieve our vision of communities that trust us to make informed decisions and provide the right solutions.

It is our role to lead the environmental management of Otago, in partnership with mana whenua, and to work with Otago communities as a source of knowledge and collaboration.

We have a strong team culture, based on trust and our ‘one team’ approach. Our roles offer a range of living situations and lifestyle options for staff around the region.

If this sounds like you, then let’s talk.

Develop your career without sacrificing your lifestyle. The Otago region is the perfect place to achieve work-life balance.

Skiing in the winter and surfing in the summer – we’ve got it covered! Otago is made up of small towns and medium sized cities covering 32,000 square kilometres. The region is geographically diverse, from alpine lakes and mountains to approximately 480km of coastline. We have a population of nearly 250,000 people (and growing). Our region offers an enviable pace of life while still providing all the amenities of other regions.

For those that enjoy the great outdoors the Otago region offers world-class options for snow sports, tramping, hunting, mountain biking, and surfing. Our region is also known for its diverse and abundant wildlife.

The University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic provide an academic and research focus for the region. Our wine and food is world-famous and the ever-growing number of cafes and eateries ensure lots of choice when it comes to eating out.

The communities that make up the Otago region are diverse groups that support sports, schools, social and cultural endeavours, and there are many ways to get involved.

The Otago region includes Queenstown, Balclutha, Oamaru, Cromwell, Alexandra and the Edinburgh of the south, Dunedin, and we have team members working in each of these locations.
