Consents Officer

At the Otago Regional Council, our mission is to support the sustainable management of our environment. We’ve recently made some transformational changes within our organisation, enabling us to focus on how we work together to be sure we can deliver on our promises and continually improve how we serve our communities. We’re not overstating when we say we have some big targets to reach, and now we need the right people, in the right roles, to help us to get there.

The Opportunity

We are inviting applications from recent (or soon-to-be) graduates with enthusiasm and drive to join us as a Consents Officer and form a key part of a close-knit, results-oriented team. In the role you will find yourself assessing and advising upon applications made to ORC for consents under the Resource Management Act (RMA). As well as the processing of these consents, you will be actively engaging with our stakeholders across Otago to ensure applicants are well-informed of their obligations both during the consenting process, and after for any required monitoring or follow-up.

Valued for your ability to meet and adhere to deadlines and the quality of your technical advice, you will be integral to the success of the consenting function at ORC. You’ll be committed to achieving outcomes and providing excellent customer service to those both internal and external to the organisation, as well as someone who can build and maintain relationships at all levels.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to hold a relevant tertiary qualification and though not a prerequisite, an understanding of the rural sector and water quality would be beneficial. You will be a confident and succinct communicator, able to negotiate and advocate Council’s viewpoint where appropriate, and a team-player through and through. You’ll be able to manage your time effectively and efficiently to maximise outputs and be consistently looking to identify operational and process improvements that will impact positively on those around you.

So, why ORC? Well, we think Otago is an amazing place – to live in, work in and to visit. At the Otago Regional Council, we’re proud to be working each day, together with our communities, to keep it that way for our future.

If you share this passion and can align your skills and experience to what we’ve outlined above, we would love to hear from you!
