The Opportunity

Our Management Accounting Team have an exciting opportunity for a highly ambitious and motivated professional to join them at our Dunedin Office. The primary purpose of this newly created opportunity is to partner across the organisation, providing financial management information and support to ensure robust and informed decision-making by Council Governance and Leadership teams. As the Corporate Performance Business Partner, you will provide advisory services to our operational teams, enabling them to achieve better commercial outcomes. Driving an integrated approach to business, you may be placed in specific project teams to support achievement of management and statutory financial reporting standards, demonstrating value for money for our Regional ratepayers.

Key tasks for this position include:
• Analysing and reporting monthly on financial areas including variance analysis
• Analysing and providing useful commentary on the linkages between financial and non-financial performance of Council operations
• Engaging in regular communications, support and liaison with the budget managers to go over reporting and associated insights, assisting them to produce and interpret variance analysis reports in a timely and accurate manner
• Ensuring Red Flags are identified and raised timely with budget managers and team leaders
• Business partnership and coaching to budget managers in financial reporting requirements and best practice
• Support Budget Managers prepare their annual budgets including the LTP (Long Term Plan) and AP (Annual Plan) and perform regular budget/forecast reviews.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
• A tertiary qualification in Business or Accounting
• Sound, recent, experience in management accounting duties (Local Government experience is not a prerequisite but may be an advantage)
• Previous business-partnership experience
• Experience in, or exposure to, a commercial environment.
