Senior Advisor – Mayoral Forum

The Otago Mayoral Forum includes the Mayors of Waitaki District Council, Dunedin City Council, Central Otago District Council, Queenstown Lakes District Council, Clutha District Council and the Chair of the Otago Regional Council. The secretariat for the Forum is provided by the Otago Regional Council.

In a move to achieve more for the region, the Forum is seeking to focus on several shared areas of interest such as housing, water, access to labour as well as other developing areas and issues.

The Role

The position of Senior Advisor to the Mayoral Forum is a newly created role, designed to provide strategic advice to the Forum, supporting informed decision-making and targeted responses, whilst keeping an eye towards the future in support of the Forum working proactively on developing future areas of interest. The Senior Advisor will be the key support for fostering collaboration across the regions Council’s and with central government and will assist in identifying opportunities for working together and solving shared problems.

About You

Ideally, you will be an experienced policy analyst, or a political advisor operating at a senior level. A background in local, regional or central government will be highly regarded, as will prior experience working on complex issues such as economic development, housing, environment and/or planning. An understanding of the challenges facing Otago over the short and long term will also contribute to your success.

You will be a politically astute individual, adept at building successful and meaningful relationships with a variety of stakeholders to enable success. With a strategic view on key challenges, you will be an experienced change agent, with the innate ability to take others on the journey with you. You will have academic qualifications in a related field, such as social science, law, policy and/or resource management. Technically, you will need to have a strong report writing, presentation, and analytical skill set.
