Senior Analyst - Freshwater and Land

At the Otago Regional Council (ORC), our mission is ‘for our future’. We’re here to protect and enhance the environment and enable our communities to do the same. To be sure we can deliver on our responsibilities, we are evolving as an organisation, and we’re not overstating when we say we have some really big targets to reach. We need the right people, in the right roles, to help us to get there.

The Opportunity

Our Policy and Planning team are excited to now be welcoming applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the role of Senior Analyst – Freshwater and Land.

In this role you will use your abilities to think strategically and innovatively in the provision of quality planning advice to Council, drawing on your prior experience, knowledge and analytical skills to promote best practice planning for our beautiful region. You will be developing policies and plans promoting sustainable resource management in Otago, participating in planning at a regional level and providing leadership to our region on matters pertaining to resource management.

ORC has an ambitious work, and this role presents an amazing opportunity to really get involved in managing freshwater and land across Otago. Achieving success in this role will be am amazing career opportunity and you will be part of a team taking Otago through a paradigm shift. The work is wide ranging and varied and in addition will involve managing complex stakeholder relationships, environmental policy, contributing to sustainable land-use policy and exercising sound judgment under pressure.

About You

Essential to success in this role is a tertiary qualification in a relevant field of work, knowledge and experience in local government policy, the Resource Management Act and in building effective relationships with all levels of Council, iwi, other governmental agencies, stakeholders and the community. Just as importantly, we need someone who can bring a solution focus to freshwater management and/or land use impacts on water quality, and who has a track record of successful leading-edge policy development. You will need to be agile, focussed on achieving ambitious goals and able to work under time pressure.

We think Otago’s a pretty special place. It covers a vast area – the third largest local government region in New Zealand. Those who call Otago home enjoy access to mountains, coastal lowlands, dramatic rivers and wild beaches. Our environment here is part of who we are, and at ORC, we work each day to look after it.

If you share this passion and can align your skills and experience to what we’ve outlined above, we would love to hear from you.
