Senior Compliance Data Officer

At the Otago Regional Council, our mission is to support the sustainable management of our environment. We’ve recently made some transformational changes within our organisation, enabling us to focus on how we work together to be sure we can deliver on our promises and continually improve how we serve our communities. We’re not overstating when we say we have some big targets to reach, and now we need the right people, in the right roles, to help us to get there.

The Opportunity

The Consent Systems and Administration team at ORC are on the look-out for a Senior Compliance Data Officer to join them in a full time, permanent capacity - supporting them as they strive for excellence in the provision of customer service and efficient data management, whilst delivering in the achievement of great outcomes for our regional rate-payers.

As a Senior Compliance Data Officer, you will form a key link with consent holders and third-party data providers, as well as internally with the Compliance and Environmental Monitoring teams at the ORC. Your contributions will be measured by the relevance of the data, the quality and timeliness of the information provided, and when reporting, the tailoring of your communications to suit the level of understanding of your audience.

Your day-to-day role will be split between ensuring the efficient operation of the databases used by the team, writing reporting, and processing incoming water metering and other compliance data. This includes maintaining the flow of data from more than 900 telemetry sites. You will be analysing the quality and usefulness of the data and whether it meets the consents conditions, as well as archiving it. In collaboration with your team, you will review and maintain quality assurance procedures, and liaise with the relevant data providers and laboratories to ensure data is viable and fit-for-purpose. You will take an active role in maintaining and improving existing systems to ensure the smooth running of the team.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a process oriented individual, with significant experience with data processing, preferably those relating to environmental types of data such as water quality analysis results and water metering. Ideally, you will come to us with a degree in Environmental Sciences, Hydrology or Database Management and at least 5 years’ experience in a related/relevant field. In addition, an understanding of Hilltop (time series data) and/or Accela (consents administration and workflows software) or other similar systems, as well as familiarity with the RMA water metering regulations and measuring water flows in open channels would be a distinct advantage. You’ll be a team player, a confident negotiator, and have a desire to further your learning in the environmental data space.

So, why ORC? Well, we think Otago is an amazing place – to live in, work in and to visit. At the Otago Regional Council, we’re proud to be working each day, together with our communities, to keep it that way for our future.

If you share this passion and can align your skills and experience to what we’ve outlined above, we would love to hear from you!
