Senior Consents Officer

Here at the Otago Regional Council, we are dedicated to enabling the sustainable management of the Otago Region for our communities, providing excellent customer service and engaging actively with our stakeholders. We have some big goals in sight, and following a recent re-shaping of our organisation, we are now resourcing our team to ensure we can deliver.

The Opportunity

Joining us as a Consents Officer (Senior, if you have substantial experience) you will form a key part of a close-knit, results-oriented team. In the role you will find yourself assessing and advising upon applications made to ORC for consents under the Resource Management Act (RMA). As well as the processing of these consents, you will be actively engaging with our stakeholders across Otago to ensure applicants are well-informed of their obligations both during the consenting process, and after for any required monitoring or follow-up. You will be advising internal customers on the consenting process and, if successful in the Senior role, providing mentoring and education to colleagues within your team.

Valued for your ability to meet and adhere to deadlines and the quality of your technical advice, you will be integral to the success of the consenting function at ORC. You’ll be committed to achieving outcomes and providing excellent customer service to those both internal and external to the organisation, as well as someone who can build and maintain relationships at all levels.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to hold a relevant tertiary qualification (see attached position description), as well as an in-depth understanding and experience working with the RMA, ideally from a local government background. You will be a confident and succinct communicator, able to negotiate and advocate Council’s viewpoint where appropriate, and a team-player through and through. You’ll be able to manage your time effectively and efficiently to maximise outputs and be consistently looking to identify operational and process improvements that will impact positively on those around you.

In return for your vast array of technical and personal skills, you will be provided with development opportunities, and be involved in some varied and interesting work.
