Future Development Strategy for Ōtepoti Dunedin

Otago Regional Council and Dunedin City Council have prepared a draft Future Development Strategy which replaces the current Dunedin Spatial Plan and outlines strategic directions for the city’s growth and development for the next 30 years.

The strategy was developed in partnership with mana whenua, and with significant input from key contributors including Waka Kotahi and Kāinga Ora.

It plans for the long-term by setting out a vision for how Ōtepoti Dunedin will:

  • achieve well-functioning urban environments in its current and future urban areas
  • provide enough development capacity for housing and business land needs to meet expected demand over the next 30 years
  • help planning decisions made under the Resource Management Act (RMA) work well with infrastructure planning and funding decisions.
