Transport Planning

We are responsible for coordinating regional land transport activities and preparing a regional land transport plan. We do this in partnership with Environment Southland, NZTA and city and district councils via the Regional Transport Committee.

The Regional Transport Committee is responsible for regional land transport functions set out in the Land Transport Management Act 2003. The Committee’s objectives are to:

  • prepare a Regional Land Transport Plan and to act as a forum on land transport issues;
  • promote and facilitate the establishment and maintenance of an appropriate, safe and efficient land transport system within the Otago-Southland region and linking it to the rest of New Zealand.

South Island Regional Transport Committee Chairs Group

The South Island Regional Transport Committee Chairs Group was established in 2016 for the purpose of significantly improving transport outcomes in the South Island through collaboration and integration.
