At a glance; the 1 May 2024 bus fare changes for those with a registered Bee Card.
- Children under five are still free.
- Fares for children 5-12 years: FREE (with correctly registered Bee Card).
- Fares for youth 13-18 years: Dunedin $1.20, Queenstown $1.50 per one-way trip.
- Fares for adults 19+: Dunedin and Queenstown: $2 per one way trip.
- No change to the free off-peak concessions for SuperGold card holders ($2 during peak times with a registered Bee Card, free fares off peak).
- No change for Community Services Card holders (half price adult fares with a registered Bee Card).
- Cash fares for those aged 13+: $3 Dunedin, $4 Queenstown, $10 Queenstown airport.
Half price fares for ages 5-24 are ending due to the government's decision to stop funding these subsidies. The Otago Regional Council voted to continue funding free fares for children aged 5-12.
Bus fares
Adult (25+) fares are $2 with a REGISTERED Bee Card in Dunedin and Queenstown.
To access your concession, you must register your Bee Card. It’s easy to register — just provide your name, date of birth and address.
You can go to an ORC office or a Bee Card retailer to buy a Bee Card, or ask your bus driver to purchase one. You can also order a Bee Card online. remember to register it by going online here.

Dunedin bus fares
You can only use cash or a Bee Card to pay for your bus fare. Bank and credit cards cannot be used on buses.

5–12 years with Bee Card — FREE fares
If you’re aged 5–12 years, you travel free on the bus. You must have registered your Bee Card online and must tag on and tag off.
13–18 years with Bee Card — 60c fares
If you’re aged 13–18 years, you will pay 60c per trip on the bus. You must have registered your Bee Card and remember to tag on and tag off.
19–24 years with Bee Card — $1 fares
If you’re aged 19–24 years, you will pay $1 per trip on the bus. You must have registered your Bee Card and remember to tag on and tag off.
25+ years with Bee Card — $2 adult fares
If you’re aged 25–64 years, you will pay $2 per trip on the bus. You must have a Bee Card and tag on and tag off to access this concession.
SuperGold Card holders with Bee Card — FREE off-peak and $2 peak fares
Your SuperGold free off-peak concession will continue to apply on the bus (from 9am-3pm, after 6:30pm and on weekends). On-peak bus travel is $2 per trip. You must have a registered Bee Card and remember to tag on and off to access the concessions.

- If you’re aged 5+ and you tag on and off with your unregistered Bee Card, you pay $2 per trip
- Bus transfers remain the same

Half-price fares for Community Connect with Bee Card
If you have a current Community Services Card, you will pay half-price fares on the bus.

Frequently asked questions
Half price fares ended 30 June 2023 at midnight.
At this point fares returned to the flat fare of $2 for adults (25+) with a Bee Card. Cash fares will differ in Dunedin and Queenstown.
You will pay $2 adult fares in peak times with a Bee Card. Cash fares differ between Queenstown and Dunedin please check table above.
Your free off peak travel concession will continue to apply.
