2030 and Beyond

Dunedin is stepping up to the climate crisis, and preparing to tackle the challenges our city will face in the coming years. In June this year, Dunedin City Council declared a climate emergency; joining communities, and governments around the world in recognising the urgency of this threat.

But what action is actually happening here in Dunedin? A panel of speakers will present four talks, followed by an open Q&A session.

Dunedin Net Carbon Zero 2030 How do we reduce climate change impacts and adapt to a changing environment? What are the climate change risks to Dunedin, how do we understanding our city’s emissions, and what are the opportunities in the climate change challenge? We will reflect on these questions and more in this talk. Dunedin City Council

Climate Change in Dunedin This talk is about the different ways in which the Otago climate is expected to change due to global warming, and what impacts this will have. Dunedin City Council, Otago Regional Council and GNS Science

Community Engagement Many of New Zealand’s urban settlements are likely to be impacted by climate change, and local authorities will need to adopt new approaches to engage with communities. This talk reflects on some findings of the Climate-Adaptive Communities project based at University of Otago. Centre for Sustainability

St Clair and St Kilda Coastal Strategy The challenges and opportunities of adaptation in the Dunedin coastal context, and the important role of community engagement in the planned development for the St Clair and St Kilda coastlines. Dunedin City Council
