Welcome to Julie, our new Science Manager

Monday 11 February 2019

Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science – an ideal day to introduce our new Science Manager, Dr Julie Everett-Hincks.

With sheep farming in her blood, Julie has had impressive career trajectory in the agricultural sciences. She attended South Otago High School and studied mostly sciences and maths, before completing tertiary studies at Massey University. Over the course of a decade, she earned several qualifications including a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Masters of Applied Science and a PhD in Animal Science, as well as authoring numerous research publications.

Julie was a senior scientist at AgResearch for a good deal of her career, where her team’s lamb survival work gained national recognition for making an impact on the sheep industry. She has also worked as Technical Officer to the GM and Training Development Manager (Shearing and Woolhandling) at NZ Wool Board and Programme Manager and Tutor – Land Strategies Group at SI.

To top it all off, Julie completed a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2017 and has worked with Professor Mark Henaghan providing legal advice to the Royal Society Te Apārangi’s Gene Editing Panel for the past two years. She was also recently appointed, by the Honourable Damien O’Connor, as a non-veterinary member of the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.

Welcome Julie!
