Last call for nominations with a week to go. Care about Otago? Stand for it!

Monday 28 July 2025

The Otago Regional Council is making a last call for anyone thinking about standing for election this year to get their nominations in before the cut off on Friday 1 August at noon.

“What matters to you in your community?” asks ORC’s Chief Executive Richard Saunders.

“Whatever it is that you think is important, you could become involved by becoming an ORC councillor. Know someone great? Encourage them to stand!”

“Being an Otago Regional councillor is a varied and interesting role where no two days on the job are the same. You’ll be a key part of democracy in our region and the work we do to look after Otago’s unique biodiversity, ensure Otago is resilient in preparing for and responding to emergencies and natural disasters, and managing public transport.

“We know it’s a choice that also involves your family and support networks, and that being a councillor is a big ask, but it’s an important leadership role in our communities, so do consider it if you think your voice would make a valuable contribution to the decisions council makes.”

“We’re pleased to see that nominations are coming in, but we have seen occasions where people have left it too late, and for one reason or another their nomination has needed correction and resubmission and so missed the cut off.”
