ORC Resource Consent Application - Kokiri Lime Company Limited

Public notice of applications concerning resource consents pursuant to Section 95A of the Resource Management Act 1991

Applicant: Kokiri Lime Company Limited

The Otago Regional Council has received applications from Kokiri Lime Company Limited for resource consents for the purpose of establishing and operating an open pit alluvial gold mine and associated activities. Works associated with this activity will include the creation of a mine pond, drilling and relocation of bores, the diversion of watercourses in the mine area, management of discharges from mining activities to air, land and water, and the management and disposal of contaminated land in the mine path.

The proposed activity is approximately 163 hectares and covers an area from the south of Coal Creek to the north of Roxburgh adjacent to and including an area of the Fruitlands - Roxburgh Road (SH8). The applicant has applied for a term of 30 years.

To take groundwater for mine pond dewatering, mineral processing, dust suppression, rehabilitation, and to augment any existing lawful take where required due to interference drawdown from mine operations.

To discharge water and contaminated water resulting from mining activities.

To divert water from watercourses within the mine path.

To discharge contaminants to land in a manner that may result in that contaminant entering water.

To excavate the mine pond, to drill bores and replace or relocate existing water supply bores within the mine site.

To install and remove structures and material from the bed of watercourse, to disturb the bed of watercourses, and to mine of the beds of watercourses within the mine path.

Location: The proposed mine site covers an area of 163 hectares extending from approximately 1.95 kilometres North West of the intersection of Tweed Street and Scotland Street (State Highway 8), Roxburgh to the south and approximately 1.85 kilometres South Southwest of the intersection of Coal Creek Road and Fruitlands Roxburgh Road (State Highway 8), Roxburgh to the north.

  6. The decision you are seeking from the consent authority,
  7. If you wish to be heard in support of your submission, and
  8. If others make a similar submission, if you will consider presenting a joint case with them at a hearing.

Note: The applicant has also applied to the Central Otago District Council for resource consents in respect of the above proposal. Please refer to the Central Otago District Council’s public notice in the Thursday 4 February 2016 edition of Central Otago News. Submissions on the applications made to Central Otago District Council must be made to Central Otago District Council.

Submissions on all aspects of the application will be heard together as part of a joint hearing process involving representatives from both the Central Otago District and Otago Regional Councils.
