The Otago Regional Council adopted the Navigation Safety Bylaw 2026 on 27 May 2026, following public consultation from 12 January–20 February 2026, and a public hearing in March 2026. The Bylaw will come into effect on 1 June 2026, replacing the bylaw in force from 2020.

The Bylaw regulates ports, harbours, waters and maritime-related activities in the Otago region for the purpose of ensuring maritime safety.

The Navigation Safety Bylaw 2026 will be available at orc.govt.nz/navsafety from 1 June 2026. Hard copies of the Bylaw may be inspected and obtained free of charge at the Otago Regional Council office at 180 High Street, Dunedin. Free hard copies can also be ordered by:
