An Organism of Interest (OOI) is a species that is capable of causing adverse effects, particularly to biodiversity values. It warrants being watch-listed for ongoing surveillance or future control opportunities, but has not been given the status of pest in our Otago Regional Pest Management Plan (2019-2029).
Giant hogweed is a very tall toxic plant with white flowers and purple-spotted stems. Its sap can cause burns, blisters, and even blindness. Report this pest!
Lake snow is a sticky buildup of algae that forms floating clumps in lakes. These clumps can clog filters and pumps in water supplies, stick to fishing lines, boats, equipment, and wetsuits, and cause dirty “pea-soup” water conditions.
