ORC is responsible for planning significant regional land transport activities for Otago. We do this by producing a Regional Land Transport Plan and Regional Public Transport Plan.

The Otago Southland Regional Land Transport Plans (RLTP) outlines the 30-year strategic objectives and 10-year network improvement plans for the regions' transport network. The Otago-Southland Regional Transport Committee is responsible for developing the RLTP.

The Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) guides our design and delivery of public transport services, information, and infrastructure. The RPTP is developed in collaboration with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, and the city and district councils in Otago.

Guided by these plans, ORC carries out the following activities:

  • We advocate for Otago's transport needs at a national level and support the Regional Transport Committee in their work for the regions
  • We deliver public transport through activities like setting bus routes and schedules, providing public transport information, and contracting the service delivery to specialist public transport operators
  • We manage the Total Mobility Scheme in Otago, a door-to-door public transport service for disabled people who cannot easily travel by bus or ferry.
